Experience in Community, Enterprise, and Leadership

Focus

Community leadership is a shared responsibility. Leadership Wyandot County will develop a “critical mass” of active, informed leaders who can effectively address community issues. The focus is a community action rather than individual development, although the latter will inevitably occur as well.

Audience

Leadership Wyandot County is designed to include a broad spectrum of community members representing all segments of the community, including age and socioeconomic differences. Both emerging and existing leaders are targeted.  Participation is by application.

Purpose

Leadership Wyandot County will help people create our community’s future.  Leadership Wyandot County will prepare participants for public decision making in order to enhance the social and economic well-being of our community.

Content

The Leadership Wyandot County curriculum is determined by a local steering committee. Generally, it will combine sessions on topics such as government, economic development, education and community resources with sessions on group process, action planning, issue identification and analysis. Emphasis is given to learning not just “what” but “how”, and encouraging innovative approaches to current and future issues.

Method

Leadership Wyandot County is highly participatory. It is based on the premise that adults learn best by being actively involved in the learning experience and by having an opportunity to practice new skills through simulation, role-playing, and similar techniques. Leadership Wyandot County will strive to create an interactive learning experience and to avoid presentations which are simply knowledge transfer.
